Ousmane Barro chipped in with 13 points, while Dominic James, the reigning Big East Player of the Week for the second consecutive week, donated 11 for the cause.

Jamar Nutter netted 18 points for wildly inconsistent Seton Hall (11-8, 3-4), which entered the contest having alternated wins and losses in its last 12 games. The Pirates have now dropped two in a row and are riding a four-game road losing streak.

Eugene Harvey had 14 points for Seton Hall, Brian Laing added 13 to go along with nine boards, and John Garcia rounded out the players in double-digits with a 10 point effort.

Foul trouble plagued Seton Hall early on, as Marquette stormed out to a 19-10 lead, with Matthews chipping in 10 of those points for the Golden Eagles.

The Pirates fought back, closing the gap to 24-18 later on, as Paul Gause and Nutter knocked down back-to-back three-pointers.

The Golden Eagles held just a four-point edge at 6:45, but rattled off a 12-3 run to take a commanding lead, 38-25, with 3:30 remaining in the front half.

Marquette later carried a 43-30 advantage at intermission.

Seton Hall made just 12-of-32 from the floor in the first half, while the Golden Eagles had 22 fast break points and also held a slim margin on the boards.

The Pirates rebounded in the second half, as Marquette's offense went cold at the other end of the floor. After Barro's free throw at 13:24, the Golden Eagles didn't put another point on the board until 9:52, a scoreless stretch of nearly 3 1/2 minutes.

Seton Hall, meanwhile, used a 14-0 run to cut the deficit to 64-58 with 10:15 remaining in the contest.

Marquette battled back, then pulled away down the stretch, building a 17-point advantage with under three minutes to play.
