Colorado hopes to rebound against Real Salt Lake

05/13/2008 - Commerce City, CO (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Colorado Rapids coach Fernando Clavijo didn't want to "complain about the referees" after Saturday's 2-1 loss to the Houston Dynamo, but added, "the outcome should be decided by the two teams and I don't believe that was the case."

Colorado lost for the third time in its last four games last week on a penalty kick in the final 10 minutes. Clavijo, who has the Rapids atop Major League Soccer's Western Conference, got his point across in an indirect way.

Rapids players Christian Gomez and Bouna Coundoul got right to the point.

"We had a good game, but a bad decision by the referee kept us from a tie. ... a bad decision did not allow us to get a result," Gomez said.

"It's out of our hands when it comes to the referee." Coundoul said.

Colorado, which dropped to 1-3-0 on the road, has to shake off the tough loss before Thursday night, when it hosts Real Salt Lake at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.

The Rapids, who lead FC Dallas on a tiebreaker, are 2-1-0 at home this season. Real Salt Lake, which beat FC Dallas 2-1 on Saturday, is winless on the road.

Although Colorado is struggling, its offense has provided at least one goal in all but one game this season. Ten different players have scored this year for the Rapids, with Omar Cummings leading the pack with two goals.

Gomez, brought over from D.C. United in the offseason, has four assists to go along with one goal. Terry Cooke has chipped in three assists and a goal.

Goalie Coundoul and his defense have allowed nine goals, but just two at home. RSL is following the same pattern offensively with nine goals at home and just two on the road.

Real Salt Lake, which would move into first place with a victory, got a lot of confidence out of last week's win over Dallas. RSL blew a one-goal lead in the second half, but bounced back with Kyle Beckerman's game winner.

"It was great. It was our first time to come back to get the win after being tied. It was big for us. We stepped over a hurdle and now we can look forward now that we know we can win games like that," said Beckerman, who was acquired in a trade with Colorado last season.

Beckerman leads RSL with three goals. Kenny Deuchar and Fabian Espindola each have two. Javier Morales leads the club with four assists and also has a goal.

Those four will be responsible for providing some offense on the road. If they can deliver, Real Salt Lake has a chance to extend its unbeaten run to four.

Both clubs are looking for back-to-back wins for the first time this year, but Colorado - which also leads the all-time series 6-4-2 - has the edge at home.

Quinn isn’t the only big man on campus this season.  Oklahoma junior running back and 2004 Heisman runner-up Adrian Peterson, listed at 7-2, rushed for a combined 3,033 yards in his first two years as a college player and will give Quinn a run for his money.
